Library to Aid Hurricane Relief Effort |
| October
6 , 2005
SHREWSBURY - During the week of October 24 –
30, Massachusetts libraries and their users will help
make a difference to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Joining this statewide effort, Shrewsbury Public Library
will suspend collection of overdue fines that week and
instead accept monetary contributions towards hurricane
relief.
Shrewsbury Library will send these funds directly to
the American Library Association Hurricane Katrina Library
Relief Fund. Libraries serve as a cornerstone for a
community, providing support and resources for everyone.
Since libraries in the Gulf Coast region have been damaged
and destroyed, this fund was established to help rebuild
these vital cornerstones of community. All funds will
go to supporting the library relief efforts in Alabama,
Louisiana, and Mississippi. Please consider making a
contribution to this important cause.
This project is sponsored by the Shrewsbury Public
Library in collaboration with the Massachusetts Library
Association and the Massachusetts School Library Media
Association. For further information, please call the
Library at 508-842-0081.

10th Annual Toy and Baby Gear Sale |
| The
SCDC would like to present our 10th Annual Toy and Baby
Gear Sale. Our event is scheduled for Saturday, November
12th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Sherwood Middle
School Cafeteria and Gym.
This very popular event provides a venue in which you
can sell your no-longer needed toys and baby items.
Or you can choose to donate your items to the SCDC for
our fundraising efforts. We appreciate any donations,
since our sales from this event go directly toward financing
many of our programs, such as our Enrichment Programs,
the Harvest Fest and Scholastic Book Fair, our Play
Group Linkups, Costume Story Time, and much more.
If you would like to participate as a vendor,
please read the following specifications carefully:
- As in previous years, each table is a divided cafeteria
table with bench space on either side. Each single
table area is approximately 6 feet long x 2 ½
feet wide. In addition, please note that your table
placement within the rooms is assigned randomly.
- Additional floor space will be clearly marked with
tape around each table. Please do not extend any items
outside of the taped area. We are restricted by fire-code
safety as to how much walking space that we provide
for the shoppers. If you have large items that do
not fit into the allotted space, we suggest that you
display photographs of the larger items and keep the
items in your car the day of the sale. That way, shoppers
will still be able to see and purchase your larger
items.
- As you are probably aware, this event has become
extremely well attended over the years. Due to the
number of vendors and shoppers, we will utilize once
again both the Middle School Cafeteria and Gym.
As we did last year, we will have at least one SCDC
volunteer dedicated to directing shoppers to and from
both the Cafeteria and Gym. We will do everything
possible to ensure that every shopper visits both
rooms.
- Due to the school holiday (Veteran’s Day)
on the previous day, we will be setting up for the
Toy and Baby Gear Sale on Friday, November 11th from
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. As usual, you will be able
to do last-minute setting up from 8:00 – 9:00
a.m. on Saturday, November 12th just before we open
the doors to the public at 9:00 in the morning.
- In order to prevent overcrowding, we cannot accommodate
more than two vendors per single table or four vendors
per double table.
- We are sorry that we cannot accommodate professional
or commercial
vendors.
If you have items to donate to our SCDC tables,
please read the following:
- We cannot accept any stuffed animals for donation.
- If you donate an item such as a car seat, it would
be helpful to have a brief description of the car
seat’s history in writing to accompany the car
seat. For example, most people want to know the age
of the car seat. We cannot accept any car seat that
has been involved in an accident of any kind, including
a fender-bender.
- We would greatly appreciate any instruction manuals
that you may have for some of your larger items, high
chairs, strollers, or car seats.
- We will be accepting donations on Friday, November
11th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Sherwood Middle
School.
We thank you in advance for your generous donations.
The SCDC continues to be such a great organization through
the help of our volunteers and through your continued
support and donations.
The SCDC will donate any unsold items by the close
of the Toy and Baby Gear Sale to the Henry Lee Willis
Community Center in Worcester. Our toys and baby items
will go to benefit under-privileged families. If you
would like to know more about this organization, please
visit www.williscenter.org.
If you would like to reserve a single or a double table,
please send the following to Amy Daley at 7 Amherst
Road, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 no later than November 7th:
- Your $25.00 check/single table ($45.00/double table)
made out to SCDC (no cash or credit cards, please)
- The attached registration form
Upon receipt of your registration information and check,
we will send you a confirmation letter via e-mail with
set-up instructions.
Please do not wait to reserve your table. We have limited
space available. We thank you in advance for your cooperation
with the above specifications and for your continued
participation in our event. If you have any questions
regarding The 2005 SCDC Toy and Baby Gear Sale, please
do not hesitate to contact Amy Daley at (508) 845-1768.
